Marathi shares Devanagari with Hindi and nothing else, so the failure mode is a transcript that looks correct and is quietly the wrong language.
Marathi is written in Devanagari, which is exactly why it gets mishandled: a model that treats the script as a proxy for the language will render Marathi speech into Hindi-shaped words that a Marathi reader will find wrong on sight. Marathi has its own grammar — a three-gender system including a neuter that Hindi lacks, and different verb agreement — plus the retroflex ळ, a letter Hindi does not use at all.
