English meeting transcription, written up for you.
English transcription is a solved problem in a quiet studio and an unsolved one in a room with six accents and a coffee machine.
Almost every tool claims English. The differences show up in the conditions that actually apply to meetings: several people talking across each other, a room with hard surfaces, someone at the far end of a table, and a spread of accents in one conversation. Glasgow, Lagos, Chennai, Singapore and Boston English differ in vowel systems, rhythm and rhoticity, and a model tuned to broadcast American speech will handle some of those noticeably better than others. GetNotes uses ElevenLabs speech-to-text, which is trained across a wide speaker range rather than one prestige accent.
The second point is that a meeting labelled English often is not entirely English. Indian, Pakistani, Nigerian and Filipino professionals switch into Hindi, Urdu, Pidgin or Tagalog mid-sentence without treating it as a language change, and the switch usually carries the part that matters — the aside, the joke, the honest assessment made to a compatriot across the table. A tool that transcribes only English renders those passages as approximate nonsense and leaves no signal that anything was missed. GetNotes handles code-switching, so those stretches come back as what they actually were.
Bot-based notetakers cover English online calls well, and there is no reason to pretend otherwise — Otter, Fireflies and tl;dv all do that job. Where they cannot help is the meeting that has no call: the client lunch, the site walkthrough, the workshop, the interview across a desk. GetNotes records the room from a phone or a laptop, labels the speakers, and returns a summary, the decisions and the action items with owners.
Where it earns its keep
A workshop with a whiteboard and eight people
A discovery workshop generates more decisions in ninety minutes than a week of email, and the facilitator cannot facilitate and minute at once. Record the room, and the write-up starts from a speaker-labelled transcript rather than from photographs of a whiteboard.
A multi-accent project meeting
A delivery review with colleagues in Edinburgh, Bengaluru and Austin, all speaking English, all sounding different, with two people occasionally slipping into Hindi. One recording, one transcript, attributed by speaker.
An interview conducted across a desk
Hiring interviews, exit interviews and grievance meetings all turn on what was actually said. A neutral, word-for-word record with speaker labels protects everyone in the room better than a manager's contemporaneous notes.
How GetNotes works
- Record or upload. Hit record on your phone or laptop in the room — or drop in an audio file you already have. No bot joins anything.
- It writes it down. Every word transcribed, every speaker labelled, in 90+ languages including ones that switch mid-sentence.
- Share the minutes.Summary, decisions, and action items with owners — ready before everyone's back at their desk.
Questions, answered
How is GetNotes different from Otter or Fireflies for English meetings?
Otter and Fireflies send a notetaker bot into Zoom, Teams or Google Meet calls, and they do that job well. GetNotes records the physical room instead — on a phone or laptop microphone, with no bot, no calendar connection and no meeting link — so it covers in-person meetings, which a bot has no way to join.
Does it handle strong regional accents?
GetNotes uses ElevenLabs speech-to-text, trained across a broad range of English speakers rather than a single standard accent, so Scottish, Indian, Nigerian, Singaporean and Australian English all transcribe. Room acoustics and microphone distance affect the outcome more than accent does, so put the phone near the table's centre.
What if people switch out of English mid-meeting?
That is handled. GetNotes supports code-switching, so a colleague dropping into Hindi, Urdu or Spanish for a sentence is transcribed in that language rather than rendered as broken English. The minutes Claude writes afterwards can still be produced in English for the whole meeting.
Can I record a call as well as a room?
Yes, by recording the audio on your device or uploading the recording afterwards — GetNotes accepts MP3, M4A, WAV, WebM and MP4. Nothing joins the call itself, so there is no bot appearing in the participant list and no permission to request from the meeting host.
