Meeting notes for lawyers.

The conversations that shape a case happen across a table, and a table has no meeting link for a notetaker bot to join.

An attendance note written two hours after the client has left is a reconstruction. The dates blur, the figures get rounded, and the throwaway line that later turns out to be the whole limitation argument is simply gone. Recording the consultation openly and letting GetNotes produce the transcript means the note you file is built from what was actually said, and the exchange itself can be pulled up again months later when the pleadings are being drafted.

Conferences with counsel, expert meetings and settlement discussions are multi-voice conversations where attribution matters as much as content. Speaker labels mean you can see that the concession came from the expert rather than the client, and that the instruction to accept was given by the client rather than assumed by the room. GetNotes writes out the decisions and the action items with owners, which maps closely to how a good file note is structured anyway.

None of this makes GetNotes a court reporter. It produces a working record for your file, not a certified transcript, and it does not carry any evidential status on its own. What it does reliably is give you a searchable account of a long meeting so that the fee earner is listening to the client instead of writing while they talk.

Where it earns its keep

The first consultation that runs to ninety minutes

A new client arrives with a carrier bag of correspondence and tells the story out of order, twice. You need the chronology, the names, the amounts and the dates, and you need to ask the follow-up question rather than catch up on your notes. Record it, and spend the whole ninety minutes on the client.

A site attendance with an expert

You are walking a half-finished building with a surveyor who is describing defects out loud as you go. There is nowhere to sit, nothing to write on, and the useful material is entirely verbal. A phone in your jacket pocket captures the walkthrough, and the transcript gives you the surveyor's own words for the letter of claim.

A conference where three people say yes to different things

Counsel, client and instructing solicitor spend an hour on tactics and the meeting ends with agreement that nobody wrote down cleanly. Speaker-labelled minutes settle who agreed to what, so the confirming letter that goes out the same afternoon reflects the conference rather than someone's memory of it.

How GetNotes works

  1. Record or upload. Hit record on your phone or laptop in the room — or drop in an audio file you already have. No bot joins anything.
  2. It writes it down. Every word transcribed, every speaker labelled, in 90+ languages including ones that switch mid-sentence.
  3. Share the minutes.Summary, decisions, and action items with owners — ready before everyone's back at their desk.

Questions, answered

Can a GetNotes transcript be used as evidence in court?

Treat it as a working file note, not an evidential transcript. GetNotes is not a certified court transcription service and makes no admissibility claim. Courts have their own rules on recordings and transcripts, which vary by jurisdiction and by tribunal. If a transcript may end up in a bundle, check it line by line against the audio and follow the relevant procedural rules.

Does recording a client meeting affect legal professional privilege?

No tool can create or protect privilege, and GetNotes does not claim to. Privilege depends on the nature of the communication and how it is handled, not on the software used. GetNotes keeps recordings and notes in private storage tied to your account, but the confidentiality decisions, retention policy and disclosure judgements remain yours and your firm's.

Can it tell counsel, the client and me apart in a conference?

Yes. GetNotes applies automatic speaker diarisation, so the transcript is split by voice throughout and labelled Speaker 1, Speaker 2 and so on rather than by name. You match the labels to the people in the room yourself, which takes a moment and matters enormously in a conference where a concession from the expert reads very differently from one made by the client.

What if the client is more comfortable in another language?

GetNotes transcribes 90+ languages and handles conversations that switch language mid-sentence, which is common when a client explains something technical in English and the underlying story in their first language. You get one transcript covering the whole consultation with speaker labels, rather than an interpreter's summary of what was said.
