Meeting notes for accountants.
The client tells you the thing that changes the treatment once, in passing, while you are looking at last year's figures.
A year-end meeting is an hour of disclosure delivered informally. The client mentions a director's loan, a vehicle used partly privately, a grant received in March, and an intention to sell part of the business next year. Each of those changes something. Written up from memory afterwards, at least one goes missing. Recorded and summarised, the file note reflects the meeting and the follow-up questions are precise.
Audit fieldwork is a series of interviews with people who are not accountants: a warehouse supervisor describing how stock counts really happen, a credit controller explaining the write-off process as practised rather than as documented. Those conversations support the working papers, and having a transcript with speaker labels means the evidence in the file is what the person said, not a summary written between visits.
For advisory work the meeting itself is the raw material for the deliverable. Board finance discussions, budget reviews and planning conversations end with several decisions that need capturing accurately, including who agreed to provide which figures by when. GetNotes extracts those as action items with owners, which shortens the gap between the meeting and the confirming letter, and makes the information request you send afterwards specific enough to be answered once.
Where it earns its keep
The year-end meeting where four things change the return
A grant, a loan, a car and a plan to sell, all mentioned casually while going through the trial balance. A summary with the key points listed means none of them quietly fails to make it into the follow-up query list you send the next morning.
A stock count walkthrough with the warehouse supervisor
The documented procedure and the actual procedure differ, which the supervisor explains cheerfully and in detail while walking between racks. Recording the walkthrough gives you their description in their own words for the working papers rather than a note written back at the desk.
A finance committee meeting you are also advising
You are answering questions and expected to produce the notes. Doing both means doing one badly. Recorded, the committee gets minutes with decisions and owners, and you get to concentrate on the technical question the treasurer asked halfway through.

Questions, answered
Can I use GetNotes transcripts as audit evidence?
Treat a transcript as a working record that supports your documentation, not as evidence in itself. Automatic transcription can misrender figures and unusual terms, so check any passage you rely on against the audio, and keep the file consistent with your firm's methodology and your regulator's documentation standards.
How does it handle numbers, dates and technical terms?
Ordinary financial vocabulary comes through well, but figures spoken quickly and unusual entity names are the most common transcription errors in any system. The practical habit is to verify amounts and dates against the audio before they enter a file note, and to take the saving on everything else you would otherwise have typed out by hand.
Does it work for a client meeting held in another language?
Yes. GetNotes transcribes 90+ languages and handles clients who switch between languages mid-sentence, which is routine for practices serving South Asian, Gulf or other multilingual client bases. You get a single transcript for the meeting, so the file note does not depend on whoever in the office happened to be interpreting.
Where are the recordings kept?
Recordings, transcripts and notes are held in private storage with row-level security, accessible only to your account, and processed solely to produce your transcript and notes. You can delete any meeting permanently, audio included. Set retention in line with your firm's own policy rather than leaving client meetings stored indefinitely.
